Team Building Adventure
This adventure challenge is designed to bring your squad closer together and get you to explore the surrounding area while having fun and staying safe. Please follow all local and state laws and be respectful of anyone or any business you interact with along the way.
Here Are The Rules
Read each challenge carefully and click on any provided links to view helpful pictures, videos, and requirements for each challenge.
Complete as many challenges as you can in the given time frame. Challenges can be completed in any order. Challenges are often designed to bring you together through fun, difficult, or embarrassing experiences, so complete whatever challenges you and your group are comfortable with. Just be sure to create some unforgettable moments and content that your group will cherish forever!
Some challenges may require a few basic supplies to complete them. Figuring out how to obtain these supplies somewhere in the area is part of the strategy so work together and use what you’ve got to get what you need.
Team members need to stay together throughout the adventure, however, if you are all at the same location and searching for an item you can spread out until it is found and then regroup to take the necessary picture/video.
Capture as many team members in your picture or video as possible. When out in the community, teams often ask a kind stranger to take their picture or video so that the entire team can get on film. If it's necessary to have someone on your own team film certain challenges be sure to rotate who that person is so that everyone is actively involved in completing challenges throughout the adventure.
#1: Stepping outside of your comfort zone, or helping those around you that are trying to, is a healthy way to grow individually or together as a group. Get your team to PetSmart here in the West End and ask a staff member inside to help you take a team picture while you are all holding (or at least touching) a large live snake. Make sure to strike a fun pose capturing your emotions, or your best attempt to channel Britney Spears circa 2001, and then be sure to thank the staff member and the snake before departing.
#2: Today is “International You Matter To Me Day” (it’s true, look it up). To honor this positive holiday find a family around the area who have at least two kids with them (young or grown) and who are willing to be filmed. Explain to them about the holiday and then take a video of the parent/guardian giving each kid a short reason why they matter to them. If there are two parents/guardians they can certainly each give reasons, as long as each kid receives an equal amount of reasons.
#3: Are the combined minds on your team smarter than one 7th grader? Click HERE to see a typical math equation that a 7th grader would be asked to solve. Once you think you have solved it accurately, send your Team Name and the answer via text to your co-worker Kelli who is an honorary HQ staff member for the day. Her contact number is 952-250-7502. Be aware that you only have three chances to get the correct answer! After your third incorrect guess this challenge will be blocked for your team. If you solve it correctly, Kelli will text you instructions on where to go and what picture to submit to our HQ via the mobile app for final verification.
#4: Get your team to Home Depot here in the West End. Once there, grab a measuring tape and start measuring Home Depot employees heights (after asking their permission of course) until you find someone that is between 5’4” and 5’8” tall. This person should be wearing some sort of Home Depot attire or an ID badge to prove they work there. Then take a fun team picture with your perfectly sized friend and the measuring tape stretched vertically next to them so their height can be verified. If HQ can’t verify the height from a distance you might be asked to take a closer picture of them or film a video actually measuring them.
#5: Take a video of at least half the members in your group completing the "Bite The Bag" challenge. Stand on one leg, bend down and grab a brown paper bag with your teeth and lift it up as you stand back up on one foot. You must remain on one foot the entire time and can not use your arms, hold onto anything, or bump into anything else. To watch a video of someone successfully completing this challenge click HERE.
#6: Anywhere around the West End find a business with a Skee-Ball machine. Once there, take a video of anyone on your team rolling a ball into the 100 point hole, OR a video showing team members rolling any two balls into the 50 point hole. For the option where you get two balls into the 50 point hole the rolls do not need to be back to back so sending two separate videos is acceptable. All balls need to be rolled from the standard location at the end of the lane.
#7: If you participated in the Spring team building event you may still have a bad garlic taste in your mouth. Well, don’t worry, this challenge will help eliminate that. Anywhere around the area find and purchase a package of flat fillet anchovies or rolled anchovies, not the paste kind. Then take a video of your team members, at the same time, all consuming a separate bite-sized piece of this unique food. Make sure to film for at least 30 seconds after you all put it in your mouth, to document your reaction. Disclaimer, this will likely not be pleasant, which is exactly the point. Because a team that suffers together, grows together.
#8: Take a team picture with any parked vehicle that has a license plate which contains numerical digits that add up to 10, no more, no less. So if the plate were "CF2H 5K3" it would be acceptable because those numbers add up to 10 and there aren't any additional numbers.
#9: Protecting the natural beauty of a place like Minnesota is vital to both our mental and physical health. Anywhere around the area find a canister of some sort that has the triangular recycling symbol on it. You are looking for an actual recycling disposal can, where someone would get rid of recyclable materials, and not just any product that has the recycling symbol on it such as a plastic bottle. Once you’ve found one, take a picture of your entire team all completing any variation of the "Tree Pose" while the canister with the recycling symbol on it is clearly visible in the background. To view a picture of someone properly performing a variation of the Tree Pose click HERE.
#10: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To honor those, and their families, who are impacted by this disease, take a proud team picture showing off your hands once every member of your team has gotten their fingernails painted bright pink (the international color for breast cancer awareness) using real nail polish.
#11: Every 5 seconds there are roughly 10 children around the world that are born into poverty. This staggering statistic shows why we need great organizations like yours that work to provide skills and therapy to high-risk children and families. To help grasp just how large this global problem is, complete the “5 Second Challenge”. On a mobile device have any one team member successfully use the stopwatch function to get the timer to stop at exactly 5 seconds. Once they’ve got it, have someone take their picture as they proudly display their device with 5.00 seconds clearly visible. This should be done using the stopwatch function and not the countdown/timer clock. Everyone can be attempting the challenge but only one member needs to complete it successfully. As every 5 seconds passes keep in mind some good news too, that in that short time frame there are also $240,000 donated to charities around the world.
#12: As therapists you all have likely used Scotch Tape for just about everything. Well, except this. To honor this incredibly versatile American-made product take a fun team picture after everyone uses Scotch tape to dramatically stretch and distort their faces. To create the proper distortion you’ll need at least 5 pieces of tape per face, although the more the better! For some inspiration click HERE.
#13: With Halloween approaching quickly you might as well get your team ready a little early. Wrap any one member of your team from head to toe in toilet paper (or multiple team members if they want to get in on the fun) leaving as few gaps as possible except around their nose/mouth so they can breathe easily. Then take a fun team picture with your new "mummy” co-worker!
#14: For this challenge you have two options. Your team can all “Crab Walk” or “Shuffle Your Buns”. If you choose to crab walk, get to the seafood section of any food store and take a video of your team all crab walking while the seafood section is visible in the background. To learn how to properly crab walk you can click HERE. If you choose the second option, take a video of your team members all "Shuffling Their Buns" 10 times in the bread and buns aisle of any food store, or inside any business that sells loaves of bread. To "shuffle your buns" sit on your backside with your legs out in front of you, knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Without touching the ground or your surroundings with your hands or arms at any time, scoot your butt towards your feet, then place your feet further out in front of you and again scoot your butt towards your feet. Have your racers all do 10 of these at the same time and be sure to show that you're in a place where bread is for sale in the background. To watch a video of a team successfully shuffling their buns click HERE.
#15: Get to any location where you can make a photocopy. Then use the machine to make a hilarious image of each team member’s face pressed onto (or hovering over) the glass surface. If possible, have two or more people packed in together to one copy, as long as everyone's faces can be captured and the staff on site allows it. When finished, take a fun picture of everyone together, holding/displaying their memorable photocopies.
#16: It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 5 years since one of the greatest NFL plays of all time, The Minneapolis Miracle, happened right here in this city! To watch the play that sparked pandemonium click HERE. To honor that exciting moment and get psyched up about this current season, find a logo of the Vikings anywhere around the area being proudly displayed, worn, flown, etc. Then take a video of your group pretending to spike an imaginary football and immediately breaking into your very best celebratory touchdown dance while the logo is clearly visible in the background. If you need some inspiration for your post-touchdown performance you can click HERE.
#17: Take a video of any ONE team member successfully completing the OREO Face Challenge. Place an Oreo on your forehead and using only your facial muscles and gravity attempt to move the cookie down your face and into your mouth without grabbing it with your hand or having it fall off. If it falls off place the cookie back on your forehead and try again. All team members can be attempting the challenge but only one needs to successfully complete it. To watch a video of someone completing this challenge successfully click HERE.
#18: A huge part of being an effective therapist is listening to the people you provide services for and understanding the stories that make them who they are. Take a video of your team and any stranger that has a tattoo while they explain what that tattoo means to them or why they got it. The tattoo must be visible at some point during the video.
